Blocks of Flats in Coventry were named after famous Coventrians. Stevens House was named after Thomas Stevens whose factory was in Cox Street, St Mary's Ward, Hillfields, Coventry (Between Cox Street, Lower Ford Street and the River Sherbourne). His weaving factory was bombed in 1940 during the 2nd World War and never re-opened.
In 1957, as it turns out, I was living about 100 yards NE from this factory location as a 'lodger' in Lower Ford Street with my friend Barry Hopkins and Family. I was an apprentice at Alfred Herbert Ltd. and attended The Coventry College of Design which opened in 1843 and was then known as The Lanchester College of Technology.
